Energy Solidarity Cooperative (ESC)
ESC is committed to building a movement of energy resilience and economic justice.
We democratize financing and ownership of renewable energy through partnerships in traditionally disenfranchised communities.
We do so through a localized approach in cooperative governance and community empowerment that combines member equity, community investment and knowledge transfer services to spread community-led clean power projects.
The Energy Solidarity Co-op (ESC) is a multi-stakeholder cooperative with three types of participating members: workers, consumers and sustainers.
Our worker members are energy practitioners offering technical services and tools that support the development and management of community power projects for our consumer members.
Our consumer members are individuals and organizations coming together to own and operate renewable energy systems, such as solar photovoltaics, within their neighborhoods. Instead of focusing on single households, our members bring together their collective interests and potential.
Our sustainer members are community investors who directly enable the development of clean community power, while their investment is repaid with interest as the project earns revenue.
Taking an innovative approach that combines financial, technical and organizational resources, the ESC is building community power from the ground up.
